We had really great hosts Felippe and Mariana, so we decided to stay in Greymouth for another night and had our first real chill day. In the afternoon we went to the beach and watched our host Felippe surfing. Afterwards we went to a nice beach for the photos and drone footage of the sunset.
The next day we left Greymouth towards Westport along the beautiful Great Coast Road and we had the perfect weather to enjoy it. We passed by the Pancake Rocks and did a short walk to see them. Just before leaving the coast and turning inland we had our first swim in the ocean to celebrate our 2000km cycled, finally it was warm enough. We spent the night at a nice spot for wild camping.
In the morning we cycled along the hilly highway through Buller Gorge to our next Host Bob, close to Murchison. It was a beautiful place in the mountains, but all the sandflies sounded like a drizzle rain on our tent – not cool.
The next day we left for the Nelson Lakes Nationalpark. Again it was a pretty hilly day and after a high climb along a small valley to Lake Rotoroa we had some parts on the very busy Highway 6. At the end of the day we stayed at a farm close to the next lake, Lake Rotoiti.
In the morning there were just 15km left to get to the lake and after pitching our tent at the campsite we did a hike to the top of Mt Robert. It was nice 3,5 hours of hiking and in the afternoon we spent the rest of the day relaxing in the campsite kitchen.
All the best,
Keep cycling,
Vroni, Droni & Joni
