We enjoyed the geothermal activity in the centre of the North Island, mainly bathing in hot pools and looking at geothermal formations like vents and pools. Furthermore we got in touch with some Maori culture. Click to read more and to watch our new video.
It is said to be the best one-day hike in New Zealand and maybe even in the world, so we could not miss the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Make sure to watch the video, it was amazing!
After cycling close to the coast for a while, just green rolling hills got boring and we decided to go back into the mountains and climb up into the volcanic area of Lake Taupo. We had to leave Wellington, clocked in our longest day with 113km, cycled through some old and dark railway tunnels and helped a farmer in shearing his sheep. Click to read more and watch our new video!
Coming to Nelson meant meeting our friend Calum whose parents live there and he hosted us for some days. That meant no biking but hiking and some good time in and around the city. Afterwards we made our way to Picton from where we would take the ferry to Wellington which would close the chapter of the South island and open the chapter of the North island of New Zealand for us. Most people we met that have been on the West Coast before told us that is was all rainy and not too nice due to that. Our experience started similarly but for a few days we are having the most amazing weather to enjoy the glaciers, the beach, the mountains and the overall beautiful scenery.
