We left Melbourne by ferry and arrived in Devonport, Tasmania, after a ride of almost 10h. Our first day of cycling in Tasmania turned out to become the day with the most meters of eleveantion per kilometer of the the whole trip so far. The roads towards Cradle Mountain meant a lot of climbing but we enjoyed the views from the top and. Even though the long steep hills wear you out, we still prefer them over the headwind we had on mainland Australia. After reaching Cradle Mountain National Park, we spent one day hiking around Dove Lake and went up to Marion's Lookout.
At the end of the day we met Lukas, another German cyclist, who just started cycling and we found an amazing place for the night next to a lake. The next day we kept on cycling the mountains together and in Tullah we met Timo, a Frensh cyclist. Again we found a nice spot for us to camp next to a river and it was really nice to have some company. We arrived in Strahan at the West Coast the next day and were super lucky with camp site. It was perfect, just us right at a lake and an amazing view of the mountains around. We had a fun night, cooked and had some drinks together. It was supposed to rain the next day in the afternoon, so we only went to a caravan park in town to have a dry place to sit out the rain. Timo cooked a big meal for all of us and we had a fun time together.
We will cycle on together from Strahan in direction of East until we turn North and the other two guys head South towards Hobart. It was amazing to meet some other cyclists again and to have some more company around for a few kilometers.
Happy climbing, Joni, Droni and Vroni
